BOOK REVIEW: Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry

Katie. McGarry. Is. My. Bae. Author.
Hey there!! I hope you had an amazing weekend. I didn't. I'm ill -_-
Today I'm going to be doing a post that is looonnngggg overdue. I actually read this novel a while ago and never got round to reviewing it for some reason. It's prolly cause I never fffully got over this novel. And what is this novel? It's Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry!
Let's get started :-)

Goodreads blurb + cover
23492282An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

*This book*~!
This book was an amazing masterpiece (yup, that's my opening line), was just so awesome. Basically, we've got Emily, my new fave, who's our good girl and seems to have it all goin' on but has some secrets that she needs uncovering.  and then we've got my new book boyfriend, Oz- the ultimate bad boy. They undoubtedly feel attracted to each other (who wouldn't? It's Oz).

One thing I kinda felt a tad unrealistic was how fast Oz and Em got physical pretty fast. I wanted my OTP to get emotional and get talking and then fall for each other.

Other than that it was SPECTACULAR and all I'm sure about in my life is that I want a motorbike bf.

I think this book is the perfect one for anyone who loves bad boys with good hearts (so basically everyone lol) and for those who want a lot of relatable realism- the factors that make a contemporary work. Oh, I almost forgot!
I also loved that real issues (sex) were properly addressed- hats off to McGarry who handled it with grace.

Overall, I LOVE this novel and cannot wait to read the next one

★ ★ ★ ★  4 stars!!
Long story short...
Would I read it again?
Would I recommend it?
Definitely :)
Would I be caught wandering (and being saved by the book guy) in this world in my dreams?
 Obvi! Count be there!!!!!!!!

That's it from me. 'Tis been a pleasure. I hope to see you next time and I hope you enjoyed this review.

SLIMY SUNDAY: What Books Can Make You Feel Better {+ other things!}

Hiya! Today's post is going to be different from my usual 'book-y' posts. I know that life can be hard for everyone for different reasons at different times.  I mean, it could be for school (dating, popularity/unpopularity, exams or just school in general), it could be work, it could be home life. Or, if like me, it's your goddamn mind. To quote this band who I low-key obsess about 99.999%, ''Everybody's got their demons, even wide awake or dreaming.''

~DISCLAIMER~ Just because I'm talking about ways to feel better does NOT mean that I am forcing you to feel a certain way or any other implications that lead in the same direction. Just keep being you and enjoy this post for other purposes, if you're not looking to feel better.
(Fam, IDK if that disclaimer made sense. I originally wanted to copy one from Tumblr that is an official disclaimer but effort. So lets just go with this- you know what I mean, anyways).

Ok, let's begin.
  1. Read a good book
    What's the definition of a ''good book''? This is a question humans have been trying to answer for centuries. Honestly, it is completely individual to the person {Let me know YOUR favourite types of books in the comments below}
Ok, so my fave type is the cliché: good girl, bad boy..and whatever's in between- whether it's because a supernatural creature or just a normal dude that DGAF. (Bet ya didn't see that coming, right? What with my blog name being 'Always Falling for Book Guys')
PSA: I totally fall for good guys too :))
Here are a few books that make me feel better: (in no particular order..)
    • Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
    • The Selection by Kiera Cass
    • Dare You To by Katie McGarry
    • Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
    • The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
These books are the epitome of 'that type' that you can just slip and fall into the world and totally fit in and the characters are my friends and I just love the worlds created by these authors.
  2. Write
Just listen to Ernest and seriously, write about what hurts. It's actually very therapeutic. And if not, just write some spicy fan fic ;)
  3. Cry your heart out. Or scream. There's nothing wrong with feeling :) Screaming at the top of your lungs/crying are what some people need to do to feel better (including me on the screaming). Just go to a quiet/private place and go for it.
  4. Have a lovely candle-lit bubble bath
  5. Get out of your head. Not literally, cause would that even work? Yeah, just don't let your thoughts consume you so much. Most of what you fear is in your head. I opened up and became slightly happier when discovering this. Set yourself free.
  6. Know that you are worth it.
  7. Go on Tumblr or Google or whatever and get some quotes. Quotes, sad as they can be sometimes, make me feel not alone. And that's all I need, sometimes.
  8. Take a deep breath and focus on the amazing things life has to offer Honestly, anything! Whatever keeps you afloat, focus all of your energy on that. Whether a band member, book character/book or TV show/actor is getting you through the day, totally engulf yourself in it. Let that be your escape.
  9. Listen to some music If you're a screamer with a black, cold heart like me (hi friend =]), then rock music is prolly your thing. I'm not talking heavy metal, just some up-beat punky music. Here are a few of my current faves:
That heartbreak-y/lonely/dark feeling
That IDGAF and YOLO feeling
That happy and empowering vibed feeling
That just in general feeling

Control by Halsey

BOOK REVIEW: Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

Hello! I hope you're enjoying this Saturday..I was until my laptop kept freezing and Blogger kepts stopping and reloading when I selected my favourite font (which explains why this post is in a different font-this is the default font but it'll prolly show up as that bold one cause of my dope layout).

So today, true to my own word, I'm going to be reviewing Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. 'True to my word' because I have a summer reading list that needs to be read and this novel was on it.
So let's gooooo!!

Goodreads cover + blurb
17661416Reality, it turns out, is often not what you perceive it to be—sometimes, there really is someone out to get you. Made You Up tells the story of Alex, a high school senior unable to tell the difference between real life and delusion. This is a compelling and provoking literary debut that will appeal to fans of Wes Anderson, Silver Linings Playbook, and Liar.

Alex fights a daily battle to figure out the difference between reality and delusion. Armed with a take-no-prisoners attitude, her camera, a Magic 8-Ball, and her only ally (her little sister), Alex wages a war against her schizophrenia, determined to stay sane long enough to get into college. She’s pretty optimistic about her chances until classes begin, and she runs into Miles. Didn't she imagine him? Before she knows it, Alex is making friends, going to parties, falling in love, and experiencing all the usual rites of passage for teenagers. But Alex is used to being crazy. She’s not prepared for normal.

Funny, provoking, and ultimately moving, this debut novel featuring the quintessential unreliable narrator will have readers turning the pages and trying to figure out what is real and what is made up.

GENRE: Romance, Psychology, Young Adult, Contemporary, Realistic Fiction
AUTHOR: Francesca Zappia
PUBLISHER: Greenwillow Books
SOURCE: Bought, ebook
RELEASE DATE: May 19th 2015
This novel was unlike anything I have ever read.
^Take that as you may.

Just kidding, take it in a positive sense cause this was a phenomenal rollercoaster and mind-boggling piece of literature.
Okay, so it follows this girl called Alex who suffers from schizophrenia and can't really tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

“Sometimes I think people take reality for granted.”
One of the things, or people, she hallucinates (or does she?) is a dude. And this dude is cool in that he speaks in science, like the proper Latin words for everything and this dude is named Miles.
And then she experiences normal teenage events..or does she? (If my suspense is annoying you, check out the links below ↓)

Anyways, to continue the review, it is an amazing read that really made me have a different outlook on mental health- I was actually in the shoes of the character that suffered from this and it was really eye-opening. I really enjoyed the whole storyline as a whole and the characters were fun and totes relatable in their personalities and I guess, life events, too.

Contrary to what you may think, I'm not gonna answer the question ''Did Alex make everything (i.e. Miles) up? Even though I really, really, really wanna. But I'm not, I'm not.

Moving on! Before I spill the beans.

So it's written in first person, Alex's POV, so we actually have zero idea if something is fantasy or reality. Ish.
I love this suspense! Muhahaha

A few of my fave quotes:
  • “People say teenagers think they're immortal, and I agree with that. But I think there's a difference between thinking you're immortal and knowing you can survive. Thinking you're immortal leads to arrogance, thinking you deserve the best. Surviving means having the worst thrown at you and being able to continue on despite that.
  • “Everyone's interesting if you stare at them long enough.”
  • "And Richter isn't a bad person, and I'm not a bad person. We're just people, and people sometimes do stupid things.”
  • ''Mom said I shouldn't drink after someone else. It's unsanitary.'' ''But it's chocolate,'' I replied.
  • “What you loved as a child, you will love forever.”
  • “Mile's fingers pressed into the small of my back. "Basorexia," he mumbled.
He laughed. "It's an overwhelming desire to kiss."
  • “Over time, the real remained in the photo while the hallucinations faded away.

BOOK REVIEW: Half Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Howdy! (Yes, I'm feeling particularly rustic this Sunday afternoon in a very sunny England).

Weirdness aside, I'm glad you clicked this link because guess what? I'm going to be reviewing a novel by my homie-author, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Half Blood.
Yes, I'm a bit late on the band wagon of this one (is that even the phrase?)...four years, actually.
Let's just begin, cause Imma keep rambling.

Goodreads summary + cover
9680718The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals--well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

GENRE: Romance, Paranormal, Young Adult, Fantasy/Urban Fantasy

PUBLISHER: Spencer Hill Press

RELEASE DATE: October 18th 2011

This words. Stuck, Nylah is stuck still in this world.

So, yes, this novel does include vampires and if, like me, Twilight put you totally off then fear not: For this novel will patch up that wound.

Alex is my soul sista and Aidan....Aidan Aidan AIDAN is bae. For those counting, my list of book boyfriends has increased, yes. Ahhh he's so hawt!! <3
I like the concept of it with the Covenant that's the school for a type of children.

The writing was amazing, in true JLA fashion: Relatable, funny, witty, vivid and just downright awesome.

It's worth a read :)

My Favourite Quotes
--Just a few because I suck at stopping and highlighting #effort
  • Hot tingles spread through me as his lips moved against my ear. "You should tell me to stop."
I didn't say a word.” “I was gonna be super pissed in the afterlife if I died a virgin in this crap hole.”
  • “It was just a hug, but gods, it meant so much. It meant everything.”
  • “It’s just words and words mean nothing. Only action does.”
  • “There is a difference between love and need. Sometimes, what you feel is immediate and without rhyme or reason.”
4 stars out of 5
